It just occurred to me today - when I started college in 2002, and prior to that in the 1990s, there was a lot of emphasis on media studies of gender and racial stereotypes. But I don't know if there is currently in introductory level college and secondary school classes analysis of how social media ads promote get-rich -quick schemes and health misinformation. Ads on YouTube promoting AI in business are in particular very slickly produced. In an introduction to college studies course that I took in 2024, we did have a class on how to analyze the trustworthiness of websites, using a homeschooling website as a case study.
