Can we have a Prudewalk too?
Apr. 25th, 2011 11:43 am Street harassment of women isn't just about sex, it's about punishing women for nonconformity to patriarchal femininity, whether it's dressing sluttily, dressing too butch or too femme, coming across as mentally ill or disabled, dressing like a frump, being too fat or too skinny, being visibly of the wrong ethnicity or religion, or otherwise not knowing your place. The other day a man in a car honked at me, and I was wearing an Indian pantsuit and a headscarf.

But yes, it's holding women to a standard. Patriarchal femininity makes us all objects, no matter what we're wearing, unfortunately.
